The Biathlon Event at the Winter Olympics 2010
Biathlon is a specific winter sport that is an interesting and adventurous combination of rifle shooting and cross country skiing. It has an equally interesting counterpart which is the Summer Biathlon. This sport is just as popular as the winter version of the game but combines riflery with cross country running. There are a few other diverse options of this game that do exist including the biathle which is a combination of swimming and running and the modern biathlon. The winter version of Biathlon has for long been a very popular sports category at the Winter Olympics. This time the competition in the Vancouver 2010 Olympics is due to be held at the Whistler Olympic Park in British Columbia.
Venue:
The venue for the Biathlon event for this Winter Olympics 2010 is set at Whistler Olympic Park in British Columbia. The stadium has a capacity to hold as many as 12000 spectators at the same time. Interested watchers and spectators who have particular needs and requirements will be specifically dropped at the Whistler Olympic Park venue entrance. The spectators from there on will board the easy to get shuttle at the location that will take them all the way. It finally halts at a distance of approx. 50 to 75 meters from the spectators’ plaza that is maintained at each of the stadiums.
Schedule:
The events for the Biathlon games in the Vancouver Winter Olympics are scheduled to take place from the 13th and the 26th of February 2010.
Following is the entire schedule of the Biathlon games that are supposed to take place at the Whistler Park.
- 13th February Saturday: 13:00 to 14:10; 7.5km Sprint for Women
- 14th February Sunday: 11:15 to 12:25; 10km Sprint for Men
- 16th February Tuesday: 10:30 to 11:10; 10km Pursuit for Women and 12:45 to 13:25; 12.5 km Pursuit for Men
- 18th February Thursday: 10:00 to 11:40; 15km for Individual Women and 1`3:00 to 14:35; 20km Individual
- 21st February Sunday: 10:45 to 11:25; 15km Mass start for Men and 13:00 to 13:45 12.5km Mass Start for Women
- 23rd February Tuesday: 11:30 to 12:40; 4X6km Relay for Women
- 26th February Friday: 11:30 to 12:40; 4X7.5km Relay for Men
Competitor Names:
Last year it was Germany that had the lead in this event with 11 medals. But this year Russia and Norway have also joined the league and will be trying real hard. Some of the world class sports persons who will be competing this time will include Katarina (Kati) Wilhelm of Schmalkalden, Germany, Hanna Helena Jonsson, of Sweden, “Biathlon King” Ole Einar Bjoerndalen from Noway, Tim Burke from USA and Bjoerndalen.
Accommodation:

Tickets:
The tickets for the Biathlon event at the Winter Olympics 2010 Vancouver will be available at the ticket box offices located at some point between the transport drop off points and the main entrance to the venue. The spectators who will be having the Category A tickets will be allowed to seat themselves at the grand-stand seating that is held in reserve. On the other hand, the spectators who have the Category B tickets are supposed to go ahead at the general admission standing. It is better for you to have specific event tickets so that you can access each of the stadiums without any hindrance.
